How to Update Motorola Via USB Cable
Update Software On Motorola Mobiles &
Tablet Via USB Cable
What You Need to update:
- USB Cable
- Motorola Device Manager (MDM) installed to your Mac or PC
- 2 GB of available disk memory
- Broadband Internet connection
How to check for an update:
- Connect your device to the computer with a USB cable.
- If it’s your first time connecting, you will be notified that device drivers are being installed on your your computer.
- After your first connection, you should see a message about updates when you connect. If the update message does not appear, you can check for updates manually by clicking on the Motorola Device Manager (MDM) icon,
. You’ll find it in your computer’s menu bar or the system tray. Then click Check for device update.
- MDM will tell you if an update is available.
- Simply follow the instructions on the screen to update your device.
MDM will periodically check for updates when you connect your device to your computer. But, you can always check manually any time you want using the MDM icon

Connection Issues?
If MDM doesn’t detect your device, try the following:
- From your device’s home screen, touch the Menu button, then touch Settings.
- Touch Developer Options, then turn off USB Debugging if it is turned on.
- Disconnect and reconnect your device to the USB cable.
- After connecting, touch the top of your device’s display and swipe down to pull down the notification bar. Change the USB connection setting to Media Device (MTP).
Note: If you do not see Check for device update in the MDM menu, then your device does not support updates using MDM.
